biography

Zorica Čolić (born 1977 in Serbia) is an artist using eclectic mix of media and styles, such as: sculpture, video, audio, text, Arte Povera poetics and symbolic associations, conceptualist connections and appropriated nonart materials. Her art connects with artistic practice of those contemporary artists that have diverse, layered and fugitive approach, refusing to adopt the conventional role of the artist, continuously adapting and cross-referencing different positions of activity.

The installations and interventions she creates offer an intuitive response to an environment, drawing attention to, and creating an awareness of the contemporary issues. They often confront the audience with the uncanny, hidden, frightful experiences that are part of everyday life, but usually, rather left concealed and unspoken. Her goal is to transgress the commonplace in order to expose unease with the ordinary giving it an existential dimension. Having political involvement that is not too literal or direct, her work relates to the notions of ‘political poetry’.
