Black Diamond

I heard a puff, I heard a blow I felt the ground, I felt the snow I heard a grunt, I heard a moan I felt the sun, I saw the moon I saw the northern light above And the eclipse of the sun I am a breath, I am a wish I am a rocket, And a fish I felt his measures and his weight My own body as a scale You heard a whisper in my ear You are not here, you are not there So in love that I could die The eclipse of the sun My foot was hurt, my knees were sore And I wondered why it burned Then I had to climb down I went up to see the sun rise And then I had to climb back up again I had to be there to see the sun rise For the air that you sent to guide me had a tone of elephant grey I know what I'm made of Cause I was warmed by the sun The sun And I'm looking for you And I'm glad I found me A special kind of personality When the spark goes out of you It grows ten times bigger in me I am the darkest lady I am your lung By the sun

DVD video loop, 2010

The work began as a certain je ne sais quoi”; it started out of pure jouissance, an enjoyment in the continuous movement, in the between states, and the elusiveness of the route that leads nowhere, as well as a pleasure in anticipating the lack of sense and meaning. Then I added the ‘black diamond’ – a flat shape juxtaposed over the video that floats and runs through the landscape, partially and occasionally blocking out the Sun, tracing the ‘lines of flight’. I wanted to emphasize the two-dimensionality of the video, flatness of the images and their artificiality.
